The 10th edition of the All Africa University Games 2020 scheduled for Kenya in August has been postponed due to the covid-19.
The countdown to the opening ceremony of FASU Games has been put on hold as a new date will be announced.
The University Games was to be used to test athletes getting prepared for the Olympic Games which has also been postponed to 2021.
Winners in the 3 x 3 Basketball and Football disciplines get automatic qualification to the FISU University World Cup.
The Games is open to every degree awarding tertiary institution in Africa, Nairobi-Kenya
The compulsory sports are Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Football, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball and 3 x 3 Basketball.
The optional sports include Handball, Swimming, Taekwondo, Karate, Rugby 7’s, and Netball (women only)
The demonstration sports are Woodball, Roll Ball and Snooker
The FASU Games – for African University Sports is another feeling of sports excitement for the youth and the media.
Nii Adokwei Cudjoe of the Media Relations Department of the Sports Directorate of the University of Ghana (UG) said it is a big blow but they have to wait as life is precious.
