At a press briefing on June 3, 2020 covering the effects of the Covid-19 on the sports sector, and finding a way out, Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah said plans ans preparations for hosting the multi-sport 2023 Africa Games event have not been affected much by pandemic.
Ghana won the bid to host the African Games (formerly known as the All Africa Games) held every four years in Morocco.
While sports fans await to see the new Olympic Sports Complex, the Minister has assured that plans are going ahead with his deputy, Hon Perry Okudzeto in charge.
The country has since been preparing in earnest for the biggest sporting competition, with the Kumasi Stadium and Sekondi Stadium both closed down for renovation works.
“Notwithstanding the negative effect of the COVID on the global sporting programmes, I’m happy to announce that Ghana’s preparations to host the 2023 Africa Games is on course. So far, there has been no indication of a postponement.
The Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the global sporting calendar, forcing the postponement of major sporting events around the world including the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan but the 2023 African Games will go ahead as planned, according to Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah.
