Matchday 8 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League concluded with a mix of surprising results across various stadiums.
On Friday, Legon Cities were held to a goalless draw at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, leaving them at the bottom of the league table.
Sunday’s fixtures included a dominant performance by Nations FC, who handed a 3-0 defeat to newcomers Vision FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Faisal Charwetey scored twice, while Richard Danso added another to secure the comprehensive win, keeping Nations FC’s perfect start intact.
Hearts of Oak’s struggles continued with a 1-0 loss against Bibiani Gold Stars at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. After a goalless first half, Atta Kumi’s 69th-minute goal gave Frimpong Manso’s side the win, helping them stay unbeaten and climb to the top of the league. Hearts had a chance to equalize through a 77th-minute penalty, but Hamza Issah missed the spot-kick.
Bechem United played out a goalless draw against Karela United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
Asante Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw by Basake Holy Stars at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium. Albert Amoah gave the Porcupine Warriors a first-half lead, but Prince Tweneboah equalized for the hosts in the 82nd minute to earn a share of the points.
Elsewhere, Young Apostles secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Dreams FC at the Wenchi Sports Stadium, thanks to Daniel Lomotey’s 68th-minute strike.
Heart of Lions clinched a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nsoatreman FC at the Kpando Sports Stadium, with Nana Oppong scoring the decisive goal in the 71st minute.
At the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa, Aduana FC played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Medeama SC. David Boison Frimpong put Medeama ahead in the first half, and Derrick Fordjour doubled their lead in the 71st minute. However, Aduana responded swiftly, scoring twice within two minutes through Silas Obeng Kyeremeh and Abdel Bamba to rescue a point.
Defending champions FC Samartex edged past Berekum Chelsea 1-0 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, with Akwasi Sarpong’s 51st-minute goal securing the win.
The top four spots are currently occupied by Bibiani Gold Stars, Asante Kotoko, Medeama SC, and Nations FC, while Aduana FC, Dreams FC, and Legon Cities find themselves in the relegation zone.
