The Ga Mantse and the Ga Traditional Council have outlined significant activities to be carried out prior to the ‘Homowo’ festive season this year.
The council in a press briefing today stated that the festive season will be preceded by cleansing of the sacred farm “Shibaa” on 2nd May.
Followed by “Nmaa Dumo” ban on drumming and noisemaking on 9th May to 9th June.
A ceremonial activity on lifting of the ban on drumming and noisemaking “Odadaa” will also be held on 9th June.
The council envisaged for bounty rainfall and good harvest as well as good tidings during the period.
They also urged the general public to observe the rules regarding the ban on drumming and noisemaking during the season in order to maintain the peace and harmony within the Ga state.
It indicated that; all church activities should be confined within the church premises, clapping of hands and use of tambourine should be avoided, positioning of loud speakers and instruments outside churches and mosques should be discouraged. The use of megaphones and loud speakers during evangelism should be banned as well as funerals and it’s related activities.
The council, however, disclosed that, a working task force has been established within the Metropolitans Municipals and District assemblies with support from the Ghana Police Service and other relevant security agencies to ensure strict compliance with ban.
They also advised the public to refrain from making derogatory remarks about the rites, practices and beliefs of the Ga people.
