56-year-old Constance Fati Blankson has defied all odds and broken barriers after gaining admission into the Huni Valley Senior High School.

Constance, currently in her first year, sits among students young enough to be her children or even grandchildren. But that has not stopped her from pursuing her educational aspirations and dreams.

Constance hails from Tamale in the Northern Region. In an interview with High Schools Africa said she gained admission after completing Junior High School in 2023.

According to her, she had her 3-year JHS education at the Aboso Glassfactory Complex and went through the process of writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

“I am a student in Form 1. I completed JHS last year at Aboso Glassfactory complex. I went for 3 years,” she said.

Constance, a married woman with four kids explained that one of her children was her classmate during her education at the basic level.

“I have four kids and two are now schooling. One was my classmate at the basic level.”

Sharing what inspired her to further her education despite her age and the possibility of being ridiculed by her peers, Constance said she was often perceived by others as highly learned and far more advanced educationally, even though she had no formal education.

She added that she took advantage of the Free SHS policy to enroll in school, helping her work toward achieving her goal.

“When people see me they see me as highly educated but that is not the case. I took advantage of the Free SHS during the Covid period to enroll myself in school,” she told High Schools Africa.
