The Ashanti Regional Writers and Publishers Association (ASHWAPA) is appealing to the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) to provide them with adequate time
to go through the new guidelines presented as well as allow them to sell their book already printed.
According to the association, the period the new guidelines was given by ( NaCCA) was inappropriate, hence asking the government and the ministry of education to give them at the end of this academic year.
“We have not rejected the request by NaCCA to submit our books for assessment, but we are only pleading with the NaCCA to allow us some time and the reason is that, when they were releasing the syllabus for the writers to look out to write our books, they did not add the guidelines”. he said.
The association also wants the government to consider the payment required, this follows the national council for curriculum assessment calling on the writers to submit their books for assessment before putting them on market.
” we cannot determine how much we should pay, but we only pleading that they should consider the economical situation in the country because we the writers and publishers have employees we have been paying. The amount they are asking us to pay is huge, so we are appealing”. he added.
Speaking to Amanie news, the executive member of the association Mr. David Hededzi said they believe government will address their concerns but if the government refuse, they will meet again and take the next line of action.
“We believe that as a good father and a good listening government, he is going to listen to us, but if the president is aware and the minister is aware maybe am very sure they will do something about it. We believe and trust that they will listen to our plea and allow us to sell our books this year and to prepare for the next academic year, but in case they refuse we members will meet again and look at the next line of action that we will take”. he stressed.
