The Eastern Regional Police Command is set to commence investigations into circumstances that led to the killing of a mentally unstable man by some police in Anyinam Kwabeng. The deceased who was a middle aged man, allegedly rushed into the police station to escape from his family, who were reportedly making attempts to send the man for psychiatric treatment.
Sources reaching Amanie News indicates that, the machete the deceased was having with him caused panic in the police station and he was therefore asked to surrender his weapon, which proved futile. The police enforcement in an attempt to shoot to disarm him unfortunately shot at him.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has assured that there would be thorough investigations conducted to get detailed facts of the matter.
Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, said “investigations have just commenced so whatever he’s saying now, the investigation is going to be very thorough so at the end of the day we will be able to establish whether some of the things he is saying are indeed things that happened”. “There are certain things to look out for, we will look out for whether the force that the policeman used is first of all proportional,…lawful,…accountable,…and necessary. Those are the things that we are going to look for” he added.
The family of the deceased man have gladly accepted the decision by the police to investigate the matter. They however shared their side of the story, saying “ the police has put it at their website stated that (he died) in the process of treatment. He reached the hospital dead.”The doctor said that he came lifeless”
