A former primary school teacher has been apprehended by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for receiving salaries for six years after she resigned.

ACB publicist Egritta Ndala confirmed the arrest of Grace Misanjo, whom she said was still receiving her primary school teacher salary despite her leaving the profession in 2013 to further her studies and even after she secured another job in one of the government entities.

According to Ndala, Misanjo pocketed money amounting to K6.3 million of the public from a job she did not do.

“On November 21, ACB arrested Misanjo, who was later taken to the Blantyre Magistrate court where she was charged with one count of theft by service,” said Ndala.

Ndala added that Misanjo was later granted bail after she produced a cash bond of K100, 000 to the court, 2 bond sureties of K50, 000 each and ordered to report to ACB offices once every fortnight.
