Some aggrieved workers under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Zoomlion has called on government to fulfill it obligations and settle the monies owed them.

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) was established under the Youth Employment Act 2015 (Act 887) to empower young people to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic and sustainable development of the nation.

Its objective is to support the youth between the ages of 15 to 35 years through skills training and internship modules to transit from a situation of unemployment to that of employment.

However, these workers have expressed their displeasure to their employers after 7 months of working without salaries and improper working conditions.

In an exclusive interview with our reporter Evans Serwornu on Friday 8th May, 2020 at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, the angry and hungry workers disclosed that all efforts made to get in touch with the coordinators proved futile.

“We have tried everything possible to reach our leaders for a solution but all what they say is that, there is no money and government has not released any money. We are tired and hungry.” They bemoan.

“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid and solve this problem for us. We need money for our daily upkeeps.” A female worker stressed.

The team leader for Ayawaso West at East Legon Patrick Afful, stated that they would lay down their working tools and seek appropriate measures in the coming days.

“We cant be working for free and allow others to enjoy from our labor, so we are planning of quitting the job and then we take drastic measures after.” Patrick Afful added.

He revealed that several promises have been made from the coordinators but nothing to talk home about.

“It has been three weeks now since the zoomlion director came to assured us that we will get our 6 months unpaid salaries, but nothing came so we are still waiting for him.

They are seeking to engage to the CEO of the YEA in the coming days before laying down their tools.
