Akufo-Addo cleaning ‘Mahama mess’ claim is most ridiculous – MP

A minority member of the Finance Committee of Parliament has ridiculed claims by President Nana Akufo-Addo that he is cleaning up ex-President John Mahama’s mess.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at a ceremony, to swear in six new ministers at Jubilee House on Friday, 2nd November claimed: “There are many things to do in Ghana; We inherited a big mess but systematically we are trying to clean it up; and by and large, we are succeeding.”

He claimed all the economic indices he inherited from the previous administration were pointing in the wrong direction, a situation his administration has corrected.

“Already, the economic indicators that we inherited have all been turned around and they are now pointing in the right direction”, the President said.

MP for Ho Central, Benjamin Komla Kpodo, however, derided the assertion and questioned why the President failed to provide a few figures to buttress his point.

He said, “President Akufo-Addo is creating more mess than cleaning up if he is doing anything at all.”

“You inherited a dollar valued at GH¢3.92 and now it is GH¢5.40 and you say you are cleaning which mess? Is it a mess Mahama created by keeping the dollar at GH¢3.92? No!”

According to Mr Kpodo, President Akufo-Addo only made the claim to the uninformed to ginger them to politically support him.

He averred that the promises President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia made during the 2016 campaign have all gone kaput.

“One district one factory is not being implemented. They are now reclassifying factories that were built before they came to power as 1D1F factories.”

“But if you listen to Bawumia carefully he said, “We shall build one factory in every district. Is that not what he said?”

“So why are you taking 2011 and 2015 factories and classifying them as 1D1F? It is pure deception,” he stated.

Bawumia, he said, claimed the money is here and therefore an NPP government will not borrow and yet the administration has borrowed within a short period more than GH¢80 billion to add to the country’s debt stock.

“We left GH¢122 billion and now it is GH¢200 billion. That is where we are now. So what mess is President Akufo-Addo cleaning,” he quizzed?
