Ghana’s Andrews Adu Appiah (AKAAK) broke down in tears after winning his first International Tennis Federation (ITF) singles title, outshining India’s Farid Usmani 7-5, 6-2 in India.

His win makes him the first Ghanaian to win the ITF Seniors title.

The unseeded Ghanaian, Adu Appiah made a strong start to his ITF seniors career, beating India’s Lalit Agrawal Lalit 6-0,6-1 in the first round, then ousted another Indian, Ravindranath Pandey 6-2,3-6,7-6(7) in the quarter finals and later defeated the third Indian Sachin Patil 6-3,5-0(r) before finishing his singles finals with a superb win over Farid Usmani.

The Oman FM presenter, AKAAK then paired with India’s Aakash Kale and lost in the doubles final to Deepak Marwaha and Sachin Patil 1-6, 5-7.

Speaking to ghanatennis.org during the trophy presentation to Ghana Tennis Federation(GTF) AKAAK described his win as “one of the biggest” wins of his career. “I didn’t expect to be in this position at all. I’m happy, very happy.”
