The Deputy Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr Clement Apaak, has described the branding of the Damongo Senior High School (SHS) in the colours of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as inappropriate.

The school is expected to be the venue for the NPP’s upcoming parliamentary primaries for the Damongo Constituency.

However, Dr Apaak, an opposition MP for Builsa South, has described the decoration of the school in the NPP’s political colours as unacceptable and, therefore, demanding answers from the school authorities.

“How can this be acceptable?” he asked.

“Students are in school; this is a public school”, Dr Apaak said in a statement.

“What happens if other political parties also start branding public schools or go to the same SHS to start branding other structures?” he questioned.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker is, therefore, demanding “answers” from the management of the school, the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education.

“If the government has introduced a policy that allows political parties to brand public schools, the nation must be officially informed. If not, we expect sanctions,” he added.
