The Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals (GhISEP) has called for an independent investigations into events leading to the explosion at Apiate in the Western Region, which resulted in the now confirmed demise of 13 people.
This was contained in a press statement cited by NewsGhana and signed by the association’s National President, Nana Annor Amihere. Nana Amihere in the statement applauded all
Stakeholders who have worked round the clock to rescue survivors and ensured the safety of residents who may have been affected by the devastating event that has left over fifty-five (55) people injured.
“GhISEP applauds all stakeholders who supported rescue efforts for their commitment to reducing the explosion’s impact”.
GhISEP however demanded that a thorough independent investigation needs to be carried out to ascertain events leading up to the explosion, in hopes of providing solutions to avert future disasters of such nature.
“We wish to caution against any blame, but urge that an independent investigation is carried out to determine the systemic lapses (if any) that may have engineered the disaster”.
The Apiate disaster which occurred on Thursday, January 20, 2022 has claimed 13 lives with fifty-nine (59) sustaining various degrees of injuries.
The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia one the company of high Government officials, Officials of NaDMO and other stakeholders have been to the site of the explosion and paid visits to some survivors while donating relief items to families who have been left stranded as a result of the impact of the explosion.
