Bawumia to Mahama: Insults Won’t Win Elections

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has fired back at former President John Dramani Mahama, saying insults won’t win him the upcoming election.

Speaking at a rally in Mim, Asunafo North Constituency of the Ahafo Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the NPP’s impressive record of achievements will be the deciding factor in the election ¹.

Dr. Bawumia’s comments were in response to Mahama’s recent criticisms, which have focused on Bawumia’s economic policies. Mahama even borrowed Bill Clinton’s famous line, saying, “It’s about the economy, stupid!” – a jab that followed Bawumia’s own list of 50 pointed questions aimed at Mahama ¹. However, Dr. Bawumia remains confident in the NPP’s record, arguing that the numbers speak for themselves.

“Many people can see what’s coming, and some are afraid,” Dr. Bawumia told the crowd. “They are afraid because they are about to lose this general election. So, have you noticed the insults have started?” He also referenced an Akan proverb, saying, “You cannot buy a horse by talking too long… You cannot buy a horse with insults, either. Isn’t that so? You can insult us all you want, but it will be in vain. You will still lose the election. All indications point to that”.

Dr. Bawumia’s message highlights the NPP’s commitment to delivering tangible results, rather than resorting to personal attacks. With the December 7 elections approaching, this exchange between Bawumia and Mahama sets the stage for a heated campaign.
