The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC) is making preparations for a demonstration against the recent increase in fuel taxes, for which the prices of petroleum have peaked up.

Earlier this year, an increase in fuel taxes was announced in parliament when Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta presented the 2019 Midyear Budget Review.

As all marketing companies eliminated any possibilities to take up any changes, checks at some fuel pumps disclosed a cognate increment in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Depicting the actions of government as apathetic to the distress of citizens, Executive secretary for COPEC, Duncan Amoah says their protest is to drive government to rescind its decision.

“We make a promise to everyone that is interested in this fuel situation. Everyone that is also disturbed by the rampant, incessant increases in fuel prices to be on standby because when dialogue and negotiations fail with government, we will hit the streets and probably sleep there this time. Not just embark on the demonstration and go home but we will sleep until the government decides to reverse this obnoxious taxes that it is today choking all of us with” he said.
