CODA Hands Over Astroturf Pitch to Wassa Akropong

The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) on Friday, September 23, 2022, commissioned and handed over an astroturf pitch at Wassa Akropong in the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency of the Western Region. The project was funded under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

Addressing a gathering of government officials, traditional leaders, past and present elected officials, and residents of Wassa Akropong community, Mona Gertrude Effah ESQ, deputy CEO, Communications, Corporate, and Compliance, stated that the project was one of many being executed in the constituency by CODA as part of government’s effort to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

Touching on the benefits of the new pitch, Madam Effah indicated that the astroturf will help to unearth sporting talents, generate revenue for the municipal assembly, help to promote physical fitness, and boost trading activities. she charged the members of the community to “own the facility, take responsibility for it, and ensure its sustainability”.

In his remarks, the Western Regional Minister, Hon Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah affirmed that the astroturf was one of the projects being executed in the constituency as part of the government’s one million dollars per constituency initiative.  He added that government is not oblivious of the current economic hardships Ghanaians are facing and will continue to ensure that measures were being put in place to remedy the situation.

A representative of the Paramount Chief of Wassa Akropong Traditional Area, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, Baffour Asikuma Hene II, thanked the government for interventions aimed at promoting economic and social development.
