‘Dear Nana Addo’: The one million dollars one constituency promise 2 years on

The upcoming episode of Joy News’ citizen-driven series ‘Dear Nana Addo’, explores the one million, one constituency promise made by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016.

Chapter nine of the party’s 2016 manifesto, states that an NPP government will adopt a localised developmental approach in transforming Ghana through an Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

Under this programme, the party says “every constituency in the country will be allocated the equivalent of $1 Million annually to finance capital expenditure on upgrading and improving infrastructure, and/or on developing new facilities, especially in rural and deprived communities.

“It is envisaged, as part of their core mandate, that the three Development Authorities – Northern, Middle Belt, and Coastal – will be the primary executing agencies under the IPEP. The Development Authorities will report directly to the Office of the President, which will ensure accountability in their operations.”

President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made sure to tout this on every campaign platform during the 2016 electioneering period.

After two years of a governing NPP, however, Ghanaians who were hopeful of that transformation have been giving their own assessment of that promise.

With this year-long series, Joy News gives an opportunity for the people to speak to President Akufo-Addo. It is also an opportunity for the President and his ministers to address the concerns that the people are raising.

The mini-documentary is set for broadcast Wednesday, September 11 on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show and at 7:20 pm on News Prime on the Joy News channel.
