An Educationist Mr. Daniel Oppong has called on school authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to dismissed and discipline any student who violates the laws of the school.
Comments follows Monday’s riot by students of the University that ended in the destruction of school properties running into several thousands of Ghana cedis. The rampages students were demonstrating against school authorities over claims that some of their colleagues were man-handed by the schools’ internal security during a vigil over the weekend. Students were asked to pack out of the school until further notice.
Speaking on News Express on Amanie FM 96.1 with Hawa Lebsi, Mr. Daniel Oppong says any student who goes contrary to the law should be dismissed. He therefore called on the school authorities to sanction and discipline any student who violates the laws of the school.
”Every students who goes contrary to the rules and regulations of the institution should be punished especially those who are around dismissal should be dismissed.
I don’t support brutality but if you are innocent and don’t do anything to provoke the security personnel or any other security person, you wouldn’t be treated in a bad way like this. The securities at KNUST are trained in a way that, they wouldn’t go on to beat students up unless you do something that will warrant the beating. Thus justifying that the military and the police should be beating the students but some of the students have made a mind made up to cause trouble for the institution at least your core mandate is to study and using appropriate channels to express your grievances. Every student that warrant dismissal should be dismissed and because of Katanga boys and girls issues some student become stubborn hovering around the school thinking that the authorities do not like them. The authorities are there for the good of every student, Therefore discipline must be maintained in the institution.”
