Exposed: Five GPL Team Buses without Insurance

An indepth investigations have revealed that five Ghana Premier league teams that participated in the 2021/2022 season did not insure their respective buses.

The insurance is aimed at cushioning officials, players and managements of the various teams ahead of any unfortunate incidents.

The investigations carried out by Eric Kojo Obeng “Khantona” of Amanie FM reports that division one league side, Tamale City FC team bus Hyundai Aero with registration number GT 8630-17 was recently insured on May 19, 2022 after an incident occurred during a league match between Nsoatreman FC on Sunday, May 8, 2022.

The reports also highlighted on the Asante Kotoko sad incident on the Nkawkaw highway which occurred on Sunday, July 12, 2017 after their league match against Inter Allies FC in Accra.

Goalkeeper of Asante Kotoko, Isaac Amoako, a victim of the incident shared his thoughts on the need for teams to insure their buses.

Speaking on Accra based radio station Amanie FM 93.3, the goalkeeper appealed to the authorities at the football hierarchy and the Club Licensing Board to verify the validity of insurance of clubs in the GPL, WPL and DOL before their participation in the 2022/2023 season.

The investigations carried out indicated that these five premier league club’s did not insure their buses during the recently ended 2021/2022 season.

2. Dreams FC ( GS 2922 – 21 )

3. Legon Cities FC ( LCFC 1 -20 )

4. Elmina Sharks ( GS 7425 – 17 )

5. Ashantigold SC ( AS 4288 – 21 )

However, according to reports, clubs have been advised to insure their various team buses, players and management members in order to avoid any unforseen circumstances in the future.

Notable among recommended insurance entities is the Priority Insurance Company, a subsidiary of the Tobinco group of companies.
