An alliance in Ghana called Forum for Actions on Inclusion, Transparency and Harmony (FAITH) has organised a Media Launch Of Ethics Against Vigilantism in Accra last Thursday ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The media launch was a demonstration of the commitment of faith-based organisations in Ghana to promote their fraternal solidarity cooperation for the well-being of the citizens.

The Executive Secretary of CARITAS Ghana and Coordinator of Faith in Ghana Alliance, Mr Samuel Zan Akologo stated that they are going to formally present their framework to engage in the 2020 General Elections. Educating, training and healing individuals, community and social (ethics) against vigilantism in Ghana’s upcoming elections.

The faith group collaboration will cooperate with both state and non-state agencies to enable them combat the vigilantism in the country.

Mr Zan went on to say that the initiative is yet another groundbreaking, undertaking diverse faith groups working together to sanitize our political environment to ensure that no one is left behind in the 2020 elections.

”We will work with the National Peace Council to pursue the agenda of denouncing political vigilantism and working towards their complete eradication in our political practice”. He added.

“We would also work with the Electoral Commission to enhance credibility and inclusiveness in our electoral processes”.

“In order to promote civic education, we will partner with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to broaden outreach in civic and voter education”. Mr. Zan added.

In his conclusion address at the media launch, the secretary added that the participation of young people, women and vulnerable groups in Ghana’s electoral processes is very critical to broadening the democracy in a participatory manner.

“We must add that the way and manner in which this participation takes place is important. As faith-based organizations, we think that the way our young people are used by some political parties and individual politicians is quite disgraceful and demeaning”.

“We will intervene on the side of our youth by educating, training and healing them against these undignified practices and abuses”.

“We will also safeguard our political environment so that women and vulnerable persons can feel safe to participate in the electoral processes”. Mr. Samuel Zan Akologo stressed on.

The Alliance will continue with a forum of Religious women’s groups to dialogue with the electoral commission on how women’s inclusion can be enhanced in 2020 electoral processes.
