GAHL 2019: Wrap Up of Week 14 Matches

The week 14 matches in the second round of the Greater Accra Handball  League commenced early morning at the Burma Camp Handball Court on Saturday 21st September, 2019.

In the men’s first game, Ghana Army thumed their authority over young boys, El-Wak Wings. The soldiers scored most of their goals through fast breaks as the players of  El-Wak Wings were too slow at recovery. Army took the step ahead at the end of the first half and had to settle on a final score of 42-30 goals at the blast of the final whistle.

Inexperienced side OSU Great Fingers could not stand the prowess of Prisons as they lost by 42 – 30. League leaders Police arrested the Extinguishers (Fire Service) by 37-23 goals despite some spectacular and excellent saves by Emmanuel Ansong in the 42nd minutes. Latif Sadik of Police scored most of his goals from the wing.  Joseph Quaidoo and Latif Sadik of Police were served three 2-minutes which warranted a red card.

The much anticipated game between Air Force and Cantonment Youth awakened memories between the two sides as Air Force seeks to revive their lost glory against Cantonment youth in the last meeting of the first round.

The intense match began on a higher note as both sides were all poised for victory. Several chances were created, but both sides could not utilize. The game ended on 16 apiece at first half.

Isaac Sellassie of Air Force caught the  goalkeeper of Cantonment youth unaware as he utilized the scoring chance to register two quick goals in the second half through a throw shoot,  But Cantonment youth responded and took the lead in the dying ember of the game with a final score of 33-29.

In the women’s category,  Army was awarded ten goals plus two points  due to El-Wak Wings absence on the day.

Vida Baffowaa’s Police managed to clinched all two points by defeating Fire by 38-18.

In the final game of the day, Cantonment youth lost to Air Force by 19-16 goals with the first half score ending at 10-08 in favor of Air Force.
