The national tennis team of Ghana, the Golden Rackets, have left Accra today to participate in the Davis Cup Group IV in Congo Brazzaville, after years of absence.
A team of five players made the trip for the competition scheduled for 24-30 June in the Central African country.
The team was led by captain Fred Egyir, with Isaac Teitei Nortey, Benjamin Nii Okai Palm, Herman Abban and Johnson Acquah.
The GNA Sports gathers that, the trip was made possible through the efforts Professor Peter Twumasi, Director General of National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Charles Addo-Quaye, Managing Director of Lonestar Oil Limited, Ambassador Ramses Cleland, Roger Crawford of Tennis Foundation Ghana and Kennedy and William Gbormittah based in United States of America (USA).
Mr. Isaac A. Duah President of Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), expressed appreciation to the technical team who prepared the players, the NSA and the sponsors who made the trip possible.
“This is indeed the Year of Return. Go Golden Rackets!!!! Go Team Ghana” he cheered.
Ghana has over the years been missing from the Davis Cup due to lack of funds.
