A pressure group in the Volta Region, Volta Youth, has called on President Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency ensure a fair distribution of the country’s resources to cover the construction of abandoned roads in the region.

In a press release on Friday, the group noted with concern that the region’s roads, especially those in the Anlo constituency have been intentionally ignored by the President since he assumed office in 2017.

According to the group, such roads were roads that were under construction until the current government came to halt work on them.

The group stated that “We recall with much nostalgia how Shime road which started with much jubilation from the citizens came to a halt as soon as President Nana Addo assumed the high office of the land.”

“The road started in 2015 and was to be completed in 2017 but the construction company, GHACOS Ltd. was made to vacate site as soon as there was a change in government for auditing to be done. Since then, the 20km road which was near 60-70% completion has been left to deteriorate under H.E. Nana Addo,” it added.

In view of the bad nature of the road, the group has called on the President to ensure the immediate completion of the project as it continues to affect the economic activities in the area.

It said, “We join our chiefs from Kome and Shime to emphasize our collective demand for the completion of the Kome and Shime roads as it continues to affect livelihoods.”

In furtherance, the group is demanding that a factory is built for the Anlo District in line with the NPP’s 2016 campaign promise of 1-District-1-Factory; while indicating that the Anlo District is yet to receive its share of the One Million Dollar per Constituency money.

“We want to assure the President that, we are also Ghanaians, hence we demand our fair share of the national cake; we demand our share of the 1D1F, One Million Dollar per Constituency and the many other developmental projects his government is touting to have done for the good people of Ghana.”
