GOC President Backs YEA Stimulus Package For ‘Youth In Elite Sports’

Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) says he fully supports the government package which is in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency and other sporting associations to launch a stimulus package purposely for youth in sports.

Speaking briefly on Wednesday at the Ministry of Information on the hardships the Covid-19 has brought on sports and the suspension of sporting activities in the country he commended the efforts being made and prayed that it would be fastened for national athletes and coaches to benefit.

He disclosed his involvement in discussions with the YEA to make funds available to support the youth who have been affected by the pandemic.

He thanked the government and the Ministry of Youth & Sports for thinking about the sportsmen and women who bring joy and honours to the nation.

Ghana’s sports federations and sportsmen who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic have called on the government to be added to the financial stimulus package fund.

“As a way to mitigate their plight, a collaboration between Youth Employment Agency, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the institution of a stimulus package known as Youth in Elite Sports for Ghana and it will be launched pretty soon,” the Sports Minister Hon. Kwame Asiamah said.
