The Handball Association of Ghana, HAG, is set to organise a two-phase (Southern and Northern zones) national referees course.

The course will touch on the new rules and regulations of the game, handball.

The southern zone will come off at the Cape Coast sports stadium from Wednesday, 4th to Friday, 6th November 2020.

With the Northern zone billed for Wednesday, 11th to Friday, 13th November 2020 at Tamale.

Speaking to this portal, the Technical Director of the association, George Bankole, stated that the course is important and would propel the referees towards the 2023 African Games.

“The course is really vital and it has come just after the lifting of restrictions on contact sports, this is going to be the first major program that the association is organizing.

“Our aim is to get at least a CAHB paired referee and it is going to be a good one because we are also preparing towards the 2023 African Games.

“We intend bringing here a CAHB instructor but due to the COVID-19 we couldn’t but the instructor will lecture his topic via zoom, ” he said.

He added that the course will help improve the officiating skills of the referees.

“We are going to take them through how to prepare psychologically for matches and officiating. They will also be taken through a little bit of coaching and how to react or make decisions during gameplay,” he added.

About 50 referees will be participating in this program.

Certificates including other products will be awarded to the participants.

The association has also lined up other developmental programs to be undertaken ahead of the African games in 2023.
