Undefeated world title hopeful Issah Samir says he is ready to challenge Brit Felix Cash for the Commonwealth middleweight title after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Issah (19-0) last fought and defeated John Akurigo at the Bukom Boxing Arena via the short route in August last year.

“I am just bidding my time and after the pandemic I will be ready to fight for the Commonwealth title. My training is superb and I’m fine,” Issah, younger brother of light heavyweight boxer Bastie Samir, told the Graphic Sports in an interview in Accra last Friday.

The 30-year-old boxer, who fights under the stables of Landmark Promotions, was billed to fight Kazakh slugger and WBO Global middleweight champion, Janibek Alimkhanuly, but the bout was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“I was very disappointed because that was a great opportunity for me to win a world title this year and this pandemic has scuppered all my world title plans,” he lamented.

Notwithstanding the disappointment, Issah believes he can still land a world title fight this year, hence his decision to intensify his training regimen with his trainer, Coach Kwasi Ofori Asare, at the Wisdom Boxing Gym in Accra.

Samir hopes to kayo any opponent who challenges him despite being ranked 14th by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and has thrown a challenge to all boxers in his weight category to spar with him to know the true world champion in the middleweight division.

“I’m ready for any fighter and I’m eyeing any boxer who has a world title in my division. I will fight any world champion; my eyes are set on the world title,” he stated.
