Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, the former GIMPA TEIN Women Commissioner and a three-time Constituency Women’s Organiser of Okaikoi North Constituency and current NDC parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi North has jabbed the Electoral Commission over the idea of embarking on a new voters’ registration exercise tagging it as not necessary.

The electoral commission headed by Jean Adukwei Mensah as the chairperson has earlier put in plans to embark on a new voters’ registration exercise ahead of the December general polls across the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic .

Speaking on the hottest political talk show on Amanie fm with Nii Lartey Larkai on Thursday 14th May, 2020, the virtuous aspiring parliamentary candidate stated that the new voters’ register at this critical moment is not important.

“In as much as the EC is an independent body, they don’t work in isolation, they work for the people of the country and we being the people, we don’t need the new register at this moment, we are not in normal times,” She stated

She further hinted that the electoral commission has an agenda with regards to the register in link to the upcoming general elections.

“If you look carefully you would notice that the EC has an ulterior motive behind the idea of creating a new register and we won’t allow it.”

“There is ban on all public and social gathering in the country, so where and how will the EC conduct the registration exercise. This should tell you that, they have an idea behind what they are doing.” She stressed.

“About 17 million Ghanaians might get infected and die if we allow this scrupulous act from the EC to happen. We want to tell Jean Mensah that it is not safe to conduct this exercise and nature is not allowing it.” Hon. Awuni added.

Also commenting on the statement made by Obiri Boahen, the deputy general secretary of the NPP, Hon. Awuni stated that she is not amuzed but described the NPP as “Patapaa”

“Yes I have heard the unfortunate comment, but I am not surprised because the NPP party is known as “Patapaa”. Even their president sometime back made an ‘All die be die’ comment which didn’t sound well. They don’t care about the people and all what they are craving for is to win the elections,” She commented.

Hon. Theresa Awuni also commended the efforts of Hon. Dramani Mahama during these trying times after providing PPE’s and other essential materials to hospitals, homes, institutions and constituencies in order to fight the deadly virus.

She assured Ghanaians of full victory come December and encourage the NDC members to rally behind Hon. Dramani Mahama for victory 2020.
