Japheth Bagerbaseh Wins Baby-Jet Top Tennis Stars Tourney

2015 Davis Cup Star Japheth Bagerbaseh defeated Current Ghana tennis Federation (GTF) No.1 Johnson Acquah 6-3,6-1 in 2 hours 45 minutes to clinch the Baby-Jet Top Tennis Stars Tourney title at the Army Officers Tennis Club house, 37-Accra.

This victory is the first for Japheth in the year 2020. Playing in front of a packed crowd, Japheth Bagerbaseh won over the hard-hitting Acquah.

The Winneba-based Japheth began the first set with a commanding 5-0 lead before Johnson fought back to 5-3, but the fight back from Johnson wasn’t enough to stop Japheth from winning the first set 6-4. Japheth maintained his aggressiveness and won the second set 6-1.

In an exclusive interview with ghanatennis.org Japheth said, “Last two months was terrible for me because I had a lot of challenges and I performed poorly, especially at Kaiser Open and Baby-Jet Top 16 tournament. I worked hard to improve on my performance and I thank God for bringing me this far”.

Japheth took home the GH¢ 2,000 cash prize, a giant trophy, a weekend stay at Royal Senchi with the family, Tecno Mobile phone and other products from the Sponsors.

Runner up Johnson Acquah also received GH¢1000 cash prize, a trophy and products from the Sponsors.

However in the ladies final, Yvonne Bruce Tagoe won the event after beating Annette Cruickshank 5-7,6-4(R). Ladies winner Yvonne also took home GH¢1,500 cash prize, a trophy and Tecno phone and other products from the sponsors.

Tema-based Desmond Ayaaba ousted Atomic Tennis Club’s Emmanuel Antwi 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Desmond was awarded with a cash prize of GH¢1,500, Trophy, Tecno phone and other Products from sponsors.

The one-week tournament was organised by the Asamoah Gyan Foundation (AGF) with sponsorship from Nii plant logistics, Baboo Sports, Cheezzy Pizza, Kanza, St.Michael’s Fruit juice, Paradise plus and Tecno.
