Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress, who were the Minority Caucus of the 8th Parliament of Ghana until just a few months ago, are now the majority in Parliament.

This was made possible on Thursday, October 17, 2024, when the Speaker of Parliament in the person of Alban Bagbin, declared four seats in the House vacant.

According to Article 97 [1(g) & (h)] of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana which states that “A member of Parliament shall vacate his seat in Parliament if he leaves the party of which he was a member at the time of his election to Parliament to join another party or seeks to remain in Parliament as an independent member; or if he was elected a member of Parliament as an independent candidate and joins a political party.”
