The Bunkpurgu-Nakpanduri District Education Director, Reverend Francis Kojo Ennuson, has lamented the furniture deficit for pupils in the district.

He revealed out of a total of 10,589 pupils enrolled in basic schools, 6,307 representing 59.6 per cent lack access to furniture, a situation he said has compelled pupils to study on the bare floor.

He noted the deficit at the kindergarten level alone is 3,804.

Addressing stakeholders at the Empowering the School Children Project organized by Aserd Ghana, Rev. Ennuson said it is disheartening to see the pupils in that state.

“Worse of it all is that the district also lacks learning materials, [coupled with] dilapidated classrooms and inadequate teachers.”

He said though government is trying its best to provide the necessary infrastructure for teaching and learning, they are not enough.

He appealed to benevolent stakeholders in the education sector to support education in the area.

On his part, the Executive Director of Aserd Ghana, Dimongso Kafari Benjamin, expressed unhappiness about the massive examination failures in the district.

“In view of this, the organization has organized series of trainings and programmes to enhance academic performance of the pupils.”

He urged parents to take advantage of the Free Senior High School programme to enroll their children in schools.
