Sibi, a farming community in the nkwanta north district of the Oti Region are leaving without water for the past tree (3) months.
The community with the population of over seven thousand walk for one and half miles to Kpassa the district capital to search for water whiles others walk over an hour to damanko in search of clean and portable water.
According to them, the protocol of washing of hands has not been observed due to the situation. The veronica backet distributed by the assembly and other stakeholders have been empty for months.
Some private schools have been closed down due to water shortage and has hindered the progress of teaching and learning. The government schools has also changed their reporting time from the usual and the closing time as well to enable the students search for water.
Speaking to the district chief executive officer, Hon. Jackai Jackson, described the situation in the community as a generational burden.
He added that the assembly is working with other alternatives to get the people of Sibi water.
Meanwhile, in 2004 – 2008 the then vice president Dr. Alhaji Aliu Mahama cute sod for the construction of Kpassa – Damanko water project which supply resident in the district water during dry seasons but has not yield any good result.
