Ahead of the 2020 Nairobi Open and 2020 PNB Paribas World Cup Team Africa Qualifiers slated from February 10-12, 2020 and 12th – 15th Feb 2020 in Nairobi, Kenya respectively, Simon Agbotsu Foundation for the Young and Disabled(SAFFTYD) has shown its support for the Ghana wheelchair tennis by donating a cash of 500 Ghana cedi’s to the playing body.
SAFFTYD, led by George Asamoah, made the donation to the team this afternoon, at the National Tennis Center, Accra where they were training.
Foundation director Mr. George Asamoah in an interview with ghanatennis.org said, ‘This is our little way to support the wheelchair tennis team ahead of their upcoming futures’.
Mr. George Asamoah threw more light on the Simon Agbotsu Foundation for the Young and Disabled by saying “Simon Agbotsu is the father of Felix Agbotsu who had an accident 13 years ago in the United Kingdom(UK) that has kept him in the wheelchair and whenever Felix came down to Ghana and saw physically challenged people begging for arms, he felt bad and that influenced the formation of ‘LOVE and LAUGHTER’ to bring all physically challenged together to do sports.”
Mr. Asamoah added that “we want to bring more physically challenged individuals, especially the young talents to beef up the Paralympic team and last year we partnered with ‘GO GET THEM’ which was very successful and it’s coming on again this year on Saturday 15th February 2020.”
Lastly, Mr. Asamoah said, “the events won’t be only tennis but other sports like blind sports, wheelchair basket ball, goal ball for the blind, wheelchair racing and arm wrestling’.
