Technical and Vocational Education and Training ( TVET) Providers from across the country have undergone a two-day workshop on Tuesday 9th August and 10th August 2022 in Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) and Resource Mobilisation at the Miklin Hotel in Accra.

The workshop organised by Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) and sponsored by GIZ was aimed at equipping Heads, Principals, Vice Principals, and other leaders of six pilot TVET Training Provider institutions with modern and innovative ways of mobilising resources for running Competency Based Training (CBT) in their various centres.

In a welcome address, the Deputy Director General for Ghana TVET Service in charge of Technical and Operations, Mr. David Prah, underscored the importance of CBT to TVET education. He went further to intimate that CBT education required a lot more resources than grammar education and asked participants to take the workshop seriously.

Delivering the opening remark, the Director General for Ghana TVET Service, Mrs. Mawusi Nudekor Awity, was grateful to GIZ for being a worthy sponsor thus far and asked for a scaling up of the support to cover more Institutions in the coming years. She was expectant that GIZ’s support will expand from the current six Institutions to twenty next year and progressively increase from there onwards.

Mrs. Nudekor Awity also called on participants to be agents of change in TVET delivery and asked them to consider themselves as gardeners tasked with watering and nurturing the TVET plant to grow and flourish. She emphasised the need for participants to take up the mantle to aggressively mobilise resources for the running of the centres through innovation and technology.

She further called on Training Providers to imbibe soft skills in students and help them to adapt and connect to industries.

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Samuel Amegayibor Chairman, Sector Skills Bodies- Construction sector and Mrs. Abigail Burgesson, an Independent Development Consultant.
