The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Perry Curtis Kwabla Okudzeto, has confirmed that the government stimulus package recently launched to help Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises [SME’s] excludes Sports.

The renowned politician has stated that the Sports Ministry is considering a proposal from various sporting disciplines but the Gh¢1b stimulus package released does not include sports.

Speaking on Joy News on the topic: ’Beyond The Lockdown, Assessing The Impact  of a Pandemic on Sporting Activities in Ghana.’ The honourable minister said:

’Sports is not part of the Gh¢1b stimulus package as we speak. But as I said, we are looking at the proposals before us and at the appropriate time, a decision will be made’.

The Ghana Football Association with the Medical Team and the Government Medical Team are in consultation assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the possibility of resuming Football and other Sporting Activities in the country

The Ghana FA president has made a proposal for the league to start behind closed doors but the honorable deputy sports minister is of the view that care must be taken because the pandemic has not been merciful to us.

”Sport is an event that the supporters are important as well as the teams. It is the coming together of the two that makes the game important. It is important it is managed in a holistic way and that is why the president of the Republic is managing it the way it ought to be.

’We can not be in an isolation as a sector. We will have to get to a point where government decides its okay to have public gathering. The option of playing in an empty is fine but that decision has not been finalized”. he added.
