As part of activities to mark this year’s World head and neck cancers, a team from the Hospital’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department educated students of St Mary’s Senior High School on Head had neck cancers.

The team, which was led by Dr. Grace Amooquaye, advised the students to stay away from alcohol and smoking, which can cause cancers.

Dr. Amooquaye noted that smoking, especially cigarettes and shisha, could cause cancers of the head or neck. She also advised the group that oral sex was another risk factor for cancer.

She advised that it was important to seek medical attention whenever anyone experienced prolonged cold, flu, nasal blockage or loss in voice and severe pain in the neck.

Other members if the team, which included nurses, a radiologist and doctors took turns to address the gathering after which students were given the opportunity to ask questions.

The students were very happy for the presence of the medical team to educate and also interact with them.

The health talk with the students is in line with the Hospital’s outreach drive to educate its stakeholders on disease prevention and better health practices.
