Stay Focus on Your Customs and Traditions – Nii Ayitey Okuansuro, Opah Community King Advises

Opah is a traditional community located in the Ga West Municipality, a suburb in the Greater Accra which comprises of Pokuase, Amasaman and Sarpeiman, with the Municipal Chief Executive being Mr Clement Lartey Wilkinson, Hon. Nii Okine Laryea as Member Of Parliament and Mr. Washington as Assembly member.

On Saturday 31st August, 2019, Nii Ayitey Okuansuro (I) the king of Opah traditional community held a ceremony to climax the homowo festive season.

“Kpokpoi”, a traditional food prepared with corn and palm oil, which is the preferred meal for the celebration of Homowo festival was sprinkled on the entire traditional Household (Shia Wulu) which turned out successfully upon completion.

Some prominent traditional rulers and well wishers were all in attendance to witness the occasion.

During the ceremony, Nii Ayitey Okuansuro (I) outlined some developmental structures in respect of Opah and also advised Ga’s in this Homowo Celebration to stay focus on the customs and traditions despite the superstitious beliefs by the public.

Speaking to Amanie news, Nii Ayitey Okuansuro (I) expressed his profound gratitude to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo for his kind gesture towards the Opah community.

“I am most grateful to His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo for all the great things he has done for us in the community, and I know he will not disappoint us in the next coming years anytime we knock on his doors” he stated.

As “Oliver Twist” will always ask for more, Nii Ayitey Okuansuro (I) pleaded to the government for more assistance and he has given out plots of lands and has started building up a police station but needs the support from the government.

” NGO’s, schools,library and social center will be established in the community very soon, and we want to plead to the government to come to our aid”. he stressed.

He further advised the youth to desist from all social vices such as gambling,fighting,smoking and pre-marital sex which causes teenage pregnancy in the community.

“I will urge and advised the youth to stay away from all these immoral activities which draws them away from the community, but to keep heed to the good things that keeps the community going. They should also engage in developmental activities”. he advised.

Nii Ayitey Okwansuro (I) also urged the king makers to stop crowning more than one successors which later brings confusing, misunderstanding and in most cases chaos in our various societies.

The  successful Opah Homowo festive celebration drew people far and near to the community in order to have a glance of the ceremony.
