Students of the Wa Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), have boycotted lectures in protest of the disconnection of electricity to the campus by the Northern Electricity Company (NEDCO).

MyNewsGh.com gathered that students blocked lecturers from entering lecture halls with the excuse that they are unable to hear or see what they teach because the public address system which is powered by electricity is not working as well as the projectors.

They have massed up at the campus in Bamahu, a suburb of Wa where the campus is located, calling on authorities to settle their indebtedness to the electricity distributor to reconnect them to facilitate teaching and learning.

The UDS Wa Campus owes NEDCO a total of GH¢3 million being power consumed since 2013 despite several letters written to the institution by the Public Utility Regularity Commission (PURC).

In a related development, power supply to the Navrongo campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) over GH¢3.4 million debt owed the company.

The action of the power distributor comes barely 24-hours after an increase in electricity tariffs by some 5.94%.

Confirming the situation to MyNewsGh.com, the Bolgatanga Area Manager of NEDCO Musah Gbanzaba said the action is as a result of a decision taken by the company to carry out the exercise in all its operational areas.
