A monitoring exercise to inspect completed and ongoing projects being undertaken by the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) in the Ahanta West constituency shows steady progress in construction. The projects are being funded by the government of Ghana under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

Key among the projects being constructed in Ahanta West is a trauma center at Apimanim intended to serve the accident and emergency needs of the entire Western Region. The accident management center will be equipped and staffed to provide care for patients suffering from major traumatic injuries including car crash injuries, gunshot wounds, falls, burns among others. When completed, the edifice will have a reception area, nurses’ bay, resuscitation area, stretcher bay, and a triage ward. Other facilities will be minor theatre, pharmacy, staff mess, administration, stores, staff, and patients’ lavatory. The trauma center will also have spaces for waiting area; staff and doctors’ restroom, plaster, changing, services, utility, and scrub-up gowning rooms.

The Authority is also constructing an ICT library at Dixcove to facilitate literacy development while male and female wards are under construction at Apowa.

IPEP enables stakeholders of beneficiary communities, constituencies, and regions to make input into the selection and implementation of prioritised projects. IPEP is also known as one million dollars per constituency initiative.
