WGMA Marks Green Ghana Day

The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly has marked this year’s Green Ghana Day with a mini durbar and a tree planting exercise.

The day, Friday 10th June 2022, was marked simultaneously at the Weija Dam Site, where a mini durbar was held, and a tree planting exercise with the teachers and school children of the Gbawe Methodist Cluster of Schools.

The Weija Dam Site hosted the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Ing. Dr. Clifford Braimah, who stood in for the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and officials of the Forestry Commission.

The Jaasetse of Weija, Nii Boafo Danyinaa Nse, the queen mother of Weija, Naa Ama Kuma Atuabom, elders, the Assembly Member for New Weija West, Hon. Emmanuel Oduro Ampaw and the Unit Committee members, were all present.

Interspersed with traditional music and dance, speaker after speaker hammered on the need to plant trees and the protection of our forests and rivers.

The tree planting exercise at the Methodist School was led by the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mrs. Mercy Quansah Ogoe.

She was assisted by the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Charles Odoom, the Municipal Finance Officer, Mrs. Grace Ahlibi, officials from the Forestry Commission, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), heads of departments of the Municipal Assembly, staff and national service persons.
