26 Senior High Schools from 13 regions in Ghana have been selected to compete in the 6th edition of the Schools Sanitation Inspection Tour organized by One on One Foundation with support from Unilever Ghana.
At the colorful launch of the 6th edition of the hygienic events which took place at the Alisa Hotel at Ridge, Member of Parliament for Techiman, Hon. Henry Yiadom Boakye urged the youth, especially girls to take personal and environmental hygiene very serious and propagate the message of healthy living in healthy environment.
He said sanitation is very important in the development of a nation and the youth are very important as the future leaders who must know the ways and means of keeping the country tidy and disease free.
He expressed his joy that the students in the various senior high schools are the targets, and they should learn much about cleanliness and sanitation as well as its defects to live long on earth.
Emmanuel Olla Williams, president of One on One Foundation explained that the selected schools will be engaged in aerobics sessions to test their fitness before they compete in scrubbing, washing and best dormitories and beds.
He said the best schools and students will be rewarded with Unilever products.
Henry Herbert Malm, corporate affairs manager of Unilever who represented the company said allowing students to know about hygiene is a laudable venture which falls under their jurisdiction so they fully in support and sponsoring the programme.
Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Gender and Social Protection, Health and the National Sports Authority (NSA), Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), school heads, media and students attended the successful event.
The theme for this year is “Poor Sanitation – A Canker That Must Be Eliminated At The Very Youthful Stage Of Our Lives”.
