Dasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng II Inter-Community Table Tennis League launched

Seven selected communities in the Eastern Region, Koforidua, are set to participate in an interesting Community table tennis league dubbed “Dasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng II Inter-Community League”.

The league which is being facilitated by the New Juaben Table Tennis Club, NJTTC, was launched on Saturday, 12th February, 2022 at the New Juaben Community center.

The communities includes Adweso, Jackson Park, Adwampong (Betom), Glamour, Nsukwao, Anlo Town and Fishing Cops.

The mouthwatering league which has been scheduled to commence on 5th March this year is to honor the late paramount chief of New Juaben, Dasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng (II) as well as unearth potential talents for the national teams.

Speaking at the launch, the Vice president of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, who graced the occasion as the chairman, Mr. Kweku Frimpong reiterated the need for other regions to emulate the initiative by promoting the sport.

According to him, the initiative would help propel the players for various future endeavors.

“I am really excited to see this day and the league is a great one. So when it begins I think it will help keep the players in good shape for the future. It would keep them in shape for any national and international games,” he said.

He also urged other regions to also emulate the idea of promoting the game.

“I want to advise other regions and clubs to take up the good step, this, I think will help sell the game more,” he added.

The chairman of the New Juaben Table Tennis Club, Mr. Felix Adjetey Sowah in an interview disclosed that, the competition has attracted a lot of support both home and abroad.

“The tournament has seen some major attractions from some former players and table tennis enthusiasts across the globe. We have some support from Nana Yaw Boateng, Isaac Opoku (Asawa) and other prominent former players.

“These former players have pledged to support their own communities with tables, balls, nets, table tennis bats among others,” the chairman, Mr. Felix Adjetey Sowah stated.

The winner of the league will take home amazing prizes and trophies.

The colourful event was graced by distinguished sports personalities, reps from the chief palace, rep from the regional P.E department and some national players among others.
