The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has called on Ghanaians and political parties to prioritize the country’s peace ahead of the December 7, 2024, general election. According to the TUC, Ghana’s peace is invaluable and must be protected from the destructive effects of partisan politics.
Speaking at the 2024 May Day celebration in Kasoa, Central Region, Cynthia Aba Sam Ananoo, Central Regional TUC Secretary, emphasized the need for a collective effort to safeguard the country’s peace. She expressed concern over Ghana’s recent economic challenges but urged citizens to uphold the peace the nation has enjoyed over the years.
The TUC secretary also stressed the importance of adequate resources for security agencies and the Electoral Commission to ensure a free and fair election. She encouraged religious leaders to preach about peace and not just pray for it.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, commended the TUC for choosing a theme that aligns with the government’s efforts to ensure a peaceful election. She acknowledged the importance of May Day in raising awareness about workers’ demands and challenges.
Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, emphasized the crucial role workers play in ensuring a peaceful election.
