The Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has asked political parties to duly prepare for either of the likely possible outcomes going into an election.
Speaking at a meeting with representatives of the various political parties on Thursday, November 21, 2024, in Accra, the IGP told the parties to prepare to deal with defeat as much as they intend to celebrate their victory.
“As you plan to celebrate your possible victory, plan to also celebrate your defeat or endure it, knowing that only one will win,” he said.
He emphasized the need for all parties to commit to the rules guiding the elections, noting that Ghana will be the eventual winner if the rules are allowed to work.
He further reiterated the preparedness of the police in leading and maintaining law and order for the elections.
“We are ready for the elections. We need your support to ensure that our plan works for the sake of Ghana.”
He asked the various stakeholders to cooperate with the police to discharge their duties to ensure an incident-free election.
Ghana will go to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024, to elect a new president and legislators.
