The Ghana Formed Police Unit, GFPU-5 Sector 4 based in Beledweyne, Somalia has commenced a five-day intensive weapons training aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of its personnel.
The training began on Thursday, 13th August 2026 at about 0900 hours with a briefing parade led by the Platoon Commander, ASP Mr. Godwin Amedzo.
Addressing the troops, ASP Amedzo urged them to take the in-service training seriously, noting that they operate in a volatile environment where professionalism and weapon handling skills are critical.
The five-day exercise will cover the Machine Gun, AK-47 rifle, and NP-18 Side Arm. Personnel will be taken through safety handling, dismantling, assembling, and the proper application of the weapons. To facilitate the training, two specialist weapons instructors were dispatched from Baidoa: AUPOL No. 6204 Pw/Sgt. Ernestina Amponsah and AUPOL No. 6283 G/Sgt. Isaac Aboagye.
The first day of training concluded successfully at about 1300 hours at the Sector 4 GFPU Base Camp in Beletweyne without any incident. The exercise is expected to run for the next four days.
