Flooding at Korle-Bu Junction

Heavy downpours yesterday flooded some areas of Accra after hours of rain. The rains came surprisingly yesterday whiles most people in the capital didn’t expect the downpour. amaniefm.com understands that some places in Accra experienced heavy flooding and drainage systems in these areas were all choked forcing the water to flood on the streets. Some cars came at a halt to allow the passage of the water. It started raining at 7:00pm till 10:30pm late.

AmanieNews reports indicates that some major roads in Accra were filled, likes of the Kaneshie-Odorkor Highway, Accra World Trade Center to National Theater traffic light was flooded, Odawna, Mataheko and Abossey Okai, Asylum Down, Carprice, Avenor, Agbogbloshie and Kaneshie-Mamprobi Road (Korle Bu Junction). Most commercial vehicles from Kaneshie to Mamprobi were all halted at the rate of heavy rains. Kaneshie first light suffered this downpour looking at how harsh and quick the water was rushing into the storm drainage. The President inspected the dredging works on the Odaw and the Kaneshie first light drainage recently on Tuesday 21st May 2019 to curb the situation of flooding in the capital.

Some market women at Kaneshie market suffered and complained bitterly of the situation. A woman also lost her goods to the rain whiles others left their stuffs for a safer location to avoid the rain from beating them. Some resident homes at Lartebiokorshie along the Korle Bu Junction were flooded with most sweeping water out of their rooms. “The gutters are some problems of the flooded”, a resident opted. 

It stopped after hours of raining, people stuck at various bus stops and drivers continued their journey, meanwhile the National Disaster Management Organization are yet to explore the situation along the assembly members of the community.
