Table Tennis: New Juaben Mp’s Championship ends Successfully

The maiden edition of the New Juaben Mp’s championship ended on a good note last Saturday, after Desmond Osei and Mavis Okyere won the male and female trophies respectively.

The championship which took place at the New Juaben community center in the Eastern region, Koforidua on Saturday 7th December saw over 40 players vying for the ultimate.

Young and talented spinner, Desmond Osei defeated top seed Emmanuel Asante of Immigration in a dramatic 3-2 in the finals to finish first whiles Solomon Danso came third with a 3-0 win over Frederick Twumasi.

In the female division, Mavis Okyere picked the first prize after winning all her matches, U17 national star Judith Acheampong came second after recording a 2-0 win over Diana Opoku in the third place match.

Speaking exclusively to amaniefm.com, the chairman of the New Juaben table tennis club, Mr. Felix Adjetey Sowah said he was impressed with the turnout and the high level of competition from the players. He added that, the kind gesture from Hon. Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah was beyond his imagination, and used the opportunity to ask for more.

A citation was presented to the Member of Parliament for his contribution towards the development of table tennis in the community and the region.

The first four winners of the championship took home medals, table tennis products and undisclosed prize money.

Spectators and table tennis loving fans who thronged to the center also took home products through a raffle draw held.

The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Hon. Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah was well in attendance with other top dignitaries from the assembly.
