Accra Girls @ 60 Anniversary Launched With Sporting Activities

The Accra Girls School High School 60 years Anniversary was held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the school’s premise in Accra with the attendance of old and current student as well as parents and sports lovers.

Some distinguished women personalities who graced the occasion were the President of Women Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG), Mrs Joyce Mahama, Madam Lankai, protocol officer for the old students association (AGOSA) and Mrs Awurabena Okran, chairman to the board of governors (1988).

They were there to support the 60 years anniversary launch and also aid their alma mata in its development.

The Anniversary Fun Games which had the theme; 60 years of promoting girl child education, the past, the present and the future was held according to houses; the Buckman House, Aryee House, Pink House, Gibson House. All participants wore their house colours which made the programme colourful.

The sporting activities competed include athletics, football, tennis, volleyball, handball, lime and spoon and ampe.

In an interview with Madam Mahama who is a member of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), she advised her colleagues and young students to practice healthy living by exercising and engaging in sports activities to look fit and healthy.

She hinted that ampe has been recognized as an international sport and would be featured at the African Games to be hosted by Ghana in 2023.

The old students association also presented a new wash room facility to the school prefect.
