A Civil Society Pressure Group goes with a name Justice for Truth and Action JTA has called on New Patriotic Party NPP government ,particularly the Economic Management Team to setup a taskforce to close down all illegal local and foreign currency exchange bureau in the country popularly known as ‘Black Market’ immediately to stabilize the Cedi against the foreign currencies, especially the US Dollar rate.
According to the group ,the current depreciation of the local currency is inadequate of enough dollars in the country due to the excessive pressure mounted at the black market for foreign currency exchange.
They therefore suggested that ,the government of the republic led by H.E Nana Akufo Addo and his economic management team should tackle the illegal free entry of the US Dollar into the country without exchange into the local currency with tax and also stop much depending on dollar for goods and service but rather value the Cedi in the world market to redeem its stabilisation.
The current situation of Cedi is worsening from day to day because the cedi has depreciate against the dollar drastically ,(Ghs 5.20 : $1.00 dollar) which has led the country into hardship.
