Renowned political science professor, Ransford Gyampo, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to arrest Members of Parliament (MPs) responsible for the chaos that erupted during the recent vetting process.

According to Prof. Gyampo, the disorder and misconduct exhibited by some MPs during the vetting of ministerial nominees set a bad precedent for Ghana’s democratic governance. He criticized the lack of decorum and called for accountability, stating that no one should be above the law.

“The level of indiscipline and lawlessness displayed during the vetting is unacceptable. If ordinary citizens can be arrested for causing disturbances, then MPs should not be exempt,” he stated.

He further urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that parliamentary proceedings remain orderly and that those who incite or engage in disruptive behavior face legal consequences.

Prof. Gyampo emphasized that political leadership should serve as a model for society, and any acts of misconduct by MPs should be addressed to uphold the integrity of the legislative process.

His comments have sparked debate among political analysts and the general public, with some supporting his call for accountability while others argue that parliamentary privileges must be respected.

The vetting process, which was meant to assess the competence and suitability of ministerial nominees, has been marred by heated exchanges and confrontations among MPs from opposing sides, raising concerns about the state of political discourse in the country.
