Job Seeker Apprehended for Theft at CHRAJ

A 36-year-old job seeker has been convicted by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a mobile phone from an office at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra.

Foster Nyarko was found guilty of unlawfully entering the office of a Principal Administrator and stealing a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone valued at GHC 4,999.

Nyarko, who was already under investigation for a similar offence at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, was arrested on January 30, 2025. CCTV footage captured him in the act, leading to his swift apprehension.

Appearing before the court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, Nyarko pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. The court convicted him based on his plea but deferred sentencing to February 27, 2025.

/ According to Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, the prosecutor, the complainant Celis-Jane Nyadroh, a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ headquarters, reported the theft after discovering her phone missing from her office on October 23, 2024.

Nyarko, who resides in Effiakuma, Takoradi, had approached CHRAJ’s front desk under the pretense of following up on a job application. He then gained access to Room 15 on the first floor, where he stole the phone.

The case took a turn on January 30, 2025, when Nyarko was caught by the management of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons for a similar crime.

Upon his arrest, CCTV footage presented to the Ministries Police Station confirmed his involvement in the CHRAJ theft.

During investigations on January 31, 2025, Nyarko admitted to the crime and was taken back to the scene, where he confessed to stealing the phone.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 27, 2025.
